Give Up for Healthiness
04 Apr . 2007
Smoking is drawing and exhaling smoke from a cigarette, cigar, or pipe. Tobacco smoke holds a stimulant, 'nicotine' which is as highly an addictive drug as heroin or cocaine. Almost everyone knows that smoking causes cancer, emphysema, and heart disease; that it can cut down your life by 14 years or more; and that the habit can cost a smoker thousands of dollars a year.
Dependence is strongest when tobacco smoke is inhaled into the lungs and with time it increases the speed and amount of nicotine absorption.
When a smoker tries to quit, he suffers from physical withdrawal symptoms such as nervousness, headaches and trouble sleeping. It also affects the chemistry of the brain and central nervous system. Finally the smoker finds it tough to quit.
Chantix (varenicline), Manufactured by Pfizer, is the recently FDA approved drug that aims to help people quit smoking. According to JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), Chantix can be four times as effective in helping a smoker give up cigarettes successfully.
According to Clinical, it’s demonstrated that Chantix is twice as effective as Zyban. Chantix works in a different way from Zyban. Nicotine-replacement therapies give you a small dose of nicotine - the aim is to provide the smoker with his/her drug while he/she overcomes the huge psychological problems that come with giving up.
Benefits and facts of quitting smoking: -
